About Us
Denise Tompkins, Psy.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and my specialty is working with children, adolescents and their families. I also enjoy working with adult women and postpartum women.
I received my undergraduate degree from Gannon University and graduate degrees from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I trained at Mt. Sinai Hospital’s Department of Child Psychiatry, Northern Illinois University, Linden Oaks Hospital @ Edward and North Central Behavioral Health Systems where I later became the Clinical Training Director for a staff of 200+ mental health professionals. I am also certified by Postpartum Support International to treat women with perinatal mood disorders.
I supervised the clinical training of the postdoctoral fellows as Child/Adolescent specialist and predoctoral practicum students at Linden Oaks Hospital @ Edward, Naperville, Illinois and consult on program development. I co-lead a support group at Edward Hospital for women experiencing postpartum anxiety/depression and assist in the development of a comprehensive postpartum screening and mental health service delivery system from pregnancy through the first year postpartum.
I have developed and conducted many workshops for mental health professionals on the topics of the use of Developmental and Family Systems theory in treatment and the use of the family in the stabilization of chronically and seriously mentally ill children and adults as well as presentations to medical staff and expectant parents regarding perinatal mood disorders. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and Postpartum Support International.
A mother of 3 children and married 25+ years, my professional work is enriched by my first hand knowledge of what it takes to raise children and be a family in today’s world.
Anna Hammond, Psy.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has trained exclusively with Children, Adolescents and Families. I received my doctorate degree from the University of Hartford and completed my undergraduate work at Ohio Northern University. My clinical internship was completed through Wayne State University. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Linden Oaks Hospital, Child and Adolescent Program, which is where I came to know Dr. Tompkins. Currently, I also work as a psychologist at Glenn Oaks Academy, a therapeutic day school for children.
I have experience working with children ages 18 months through 18 years in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings including inpatient acute, extend day treatment programs, residential treatment programs, foster care clinics, child development centers and child guidance centers in the states of Ohio, Connecticut and Michigan. Also, I have provided consultation to Early Head Start programs where I developed and implemented programming to enhance parenting skills and parent-child relationship building. More recently, I have developed an interest in working with young adults.
In addition to my clinical training, I engaged in research throughout my undergraduate and graduate education. A recipient of many academic awards and assistantships, I have taught at the graduate level. Throughout the years I have been active in professional organizations related to diversity and women’s research issues. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, and the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. I live in Naperville with my husband.
Debra Gomez, Ph.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years experience in working with children, adolescents and their families. I received my masters degree in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas and my doctorate from Texas Women's University.
I have a particular expertise in the assessment of children with austism spectrum disorders and ADHD. Although trained as a clinical psychologist, I am also a school psychologist and have a unique expertise in facilitating the best interface between clinical issues of children and their functioning in a school setting. I co-authored the the manual of best practices in autism identification and evaluation that is currently used in all schools in the State of Texas. Currently, I am writing a university level textbook on this subject and I am a frequent presenter at national autism conferences. I teach at the university level and have directed the clinical training of doctoral level child psychologists.
My work with children and families cast a net far wider
than those with developmental disorders.
I have been in private practice for years, working with children and
families with all types of emotional and behavioral issues, which is what I
love best. I am a mother of three
children, elementary through college age. This past year I moved with my family to the Naperville area.
